«Pau-Brasil» de Letícia Larin

A decorrer em cinco sessões, entre março e maio de 2024, o ciclo de performance VOLTAS é protagonizado por 6 artistas/ativistas internacionais que, com o seu trabalho, abordam questões universais ligadas à proteção dos valores das sociedades democráticas e ao desenvolvimento de uma consciência coletiva: a descolonização do conhecimento, a opressão política, a desigualdade social, as questões de género, a mudança climática.
Considera-se a revolução como um ponto de convergência fundamental para o desenvolvimento de uma consciência coletiva, o lugar onde definir novamente as fronteiras e os caracteres das minorias, ou repensar os instrumentos de acolhimento e proteção da sociedade democrática. Assim, a reflexão sobre o 25 de Abril torna-se uma ocasião para explorar as contestações políticas e sociais da atualidade não só em Portugal, mas também a nível internacional.
Com performances de Katarina Balunova (SK), Laura Stinger (US), Letícia Larin (BR), Melissa Rodrigues (CV/PT) com Carolina Varela (PT) e Roxanna Albayati (UK/IR) com Rebecca Moradalizadeh (PT/IR).

No dia 18 de Maio às 18:00 apresentamos a quarta sessão do ciclo. «Pau-Brasil» de Letícia Larin é uma performance de atmosfera ativista-ritualística em que se cruzam a produção de bens de consumo e a fabricação do corpo e do espaço social. O enredo dessa manifestação em transe é inspirado no mito Tupi-Guarani de criação do ser humano, onde o tronco da árvore pau-brasil serve de molde. Nesta peça, elementos que ressoam a ancestralidade indígena e a colonização de Pindorama (“Brasil” em guarani) funcionam como objetos relacionais. Sendo incorporados por almas e políticas tingidas com sangue através de detalhes em vermelho, chocam-se instâncias espirituais, terapêuticas, extrativistas e capitalistas. Tem-se assim, no revelar da razão e da loucura que fazem restar extinção e morte, um rito à transformação e à cura.

VOLTAS é parte integrante do projeto “Lápis Azul / Lápis Vermelho”, com apoio conjunto da República Portuguesa – Cultura / Direção-Geral das Artes e da Comissão Comemorativa 50 anos 25 de Abril.

BIOGRAFIA:

LETÍCIA LARÍN nasceu em São Paulo (1982), de 2012 a 2016 residiu em Lima (Peru) e desde 2017 vive e trabalha em Lisboa. Artista visual e investigadora, é doutoranda em Belas-Artes (FBAUL, Lisboa, Portugal). Além de ser bolsista (FCT, Portugal) e receber uma bolsa de investigação (CLACSO, Argentina), publicou um capítulo de livro (CLACSO) e artigos (Brasil, Portugal, Peru, Espanha e Argentina), realizou residências artísticas (México, Portugal, Brasil e Estados Unidos) e apresentou conferências (Portugal, Alemanha, México, Peru, Argentina y Estados Unidos), performances (como em El Nidal e 9ª Conferencia CLACSO, Cidade do México, 2022; Projecto EXTRAI, Lousal, 2021; Festival dos Canais, Aveiro, 2019; 515 Gallery, Los Angeles, 2018; ABLI-Arte Bienal en Lima, 2017; Galería NNM, Lima, 2016) e instalações de grande formato (Casa da Cultura de Ílhavo e edifício INATEL em Braga, Portugal). Teve as suas principais mostras individuais em Lima (Centro Cultural Ricardo Palma e Socorro Espacio Polivalente) e participou em cerca de 60 exposições coletivas entre Portugal, Peru, Brasil e Estados Unidos (como É Bonita a Festa Pá, Bienal de Cerveira, Vila Nova de Cerveira, 2024; Ar: Acervo Rotativo, Luz Espaço de Arte, São Paulo, 2023; ARCO Perú – 3ª Edición de ABLI, Lima, 2019; The Bermuda Project, St. Louis, EUA, 2018; Loops – 4ª edição, MNAC, Lisboa, 2018; Concurso de Arte Contemporáneo Joven, CCRP, Lima, 2014; X Bienal do Recôncavo, CC Dannemann, Bahia, 2010; Paradoxos Brasil – Rumos Artes Visuais 2005/2006, CDMAC, Fortaleza, Paço Imperial, Rio de Janeiro e Instituto Itaú Cultural, São Paulo).

VOLTAS | Cycle of Performances
«Pau-Brasil» by Letícia Larin

Taking place in five sessions, between March and May 2024, the VOLTAS performance cycle is led by 6 international artists/activists who, with their work, address universal issues linked to the protection of the values of democratic societies and the development of an awareness collective: the decolonization of knowledge, political oppression, social inequality, gender issues, climate change.
The revolution is considered a fundamental point of convergence for the development of a collective consciousness, the place to once again define the borders and characteristics of minorities, or rethink the instruments for welcoming and protecting democratic society. Thus, reflection on the 25th of April becomes an opportunity to explore current political and social contestations not only in Portugal, but also at an international level.

On May 18th at 6:00 pm we present the fourth session of the cycle. «Pau-Brasil» by Letícia Larin is a performance with an activist-ritualistic atmosphere in which the production of consumer goods and the fabrication of the body and social space intersect. The plot of this trance manifestation is inspired by the Tupi-Guarani myth of the creation of the human being, where the trunk of the Brazilwood tree serves as a mold. In this piece, elements that resonate with indigenous ancestry and the colonization of Pindorama (“Brazil” in Guarani) function as relational objects. Being embodied by souls and policies dyed with blood through red details, spiritual, therapeutic, extractive and capitalist instances collide. Thus, in the revelation of reason and madness that make extinction and death remain, there is a rite of transformation and healing.

BIOGRAPHIES:

LETÍCIA LARÍN was born in São Paulo (1982), from 2012 to 2016 she lived in Lima (Peru) and since 2017 she has lived and worked in Lisbon. Visual artist and researcher, she is a PhD candidate in Fine Arts (FBAUL, Lisbon, Portugal). In addition to being a fellow (FCT, Portugal) and receiving a research grant (CLACSO, Argentina), she published a book chapter (CLACSO) and articles (Brazil, Portugal, Peru, Spain and Argentina), held artistic residencies (Mexico, Portugal , Brazil and the United States) and presented conferences (Portugal, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Argentina and the United States), performances (as in El Nidal and 9th CLACSO Conference, Mexico City, 2022; EXTRAI Project, Lousal, 2021; Festival dos Canais, Aveiro, 2019; 515 Gallery, Los Angeles, 2018; ABLI-Arte Bienal en Lima, 2017; Galería NNM, Lima, 2016) and large format installations (Casa da Cultura de Ílhavo and INATEL building in Braga, Portugal).
