Flannery O’Connor é uma das maiores escritoras americanas, conhecida pelos seus contos marcantes. Além da sua obra de ficção, a autora também escreveu ensaios como The Teaching of Literature (reunido no livro Mystery and Manners), que reflete sobre o papel do professor em inspirar e formar a relação dos alunos com a literatura.

Nesta sessão do Seminário “Pensar a Educação”, discutiremos:

• Qual o valor educativo da ficção?
• Como lidar com as tentações anti-literárias nas escolas?
• O papel do professor em transformar a cultura literária e a relação dos alunos com os livros.

Simão Lucas Pires, escritor e autor de A Trombeta Vaga (Quetzal, 2023). Formado em filosofia, tem experiência como professor e trabalha na interseção entre literatura, filosofia e educação.

Flannery O’Connor, a renowned American author, is celebrated for her striking short stories. In addition to her fiction, she wrote essays such as The Teaching of Literature (included in Mystery and Manners), which reflects on the teacher’s role in inspiring students to engage deeply with literature.

This session of the seminar “Thinking Education” will explore:

• What is the educational value of fiction?
• How can teachers counter anti-literary tendencies in schools?
• The teacher’s role in transforming students’ relationship with literature and culture.
