A segunda ópera do Ciclo Grandes Clássicos, da programação desta edição, evoca os amores trágicos da raínha de Cartágo, Dido, pelo herói troiano, Eneias. Pela primeira o Operafest apresenta repertório barroco Os enigmas e dilemas de uma mulher no poder que quer acabar com a guerra e com o sofrimento. Mas as malhas traiçoeiras do destino acabam por soprar tragédia e morte. Com a música mais contrastante que vai do de um dos lamentos mais desolados e belos da história da música como o “O lamento de Dido” a momentos musicais de euforia, paixão e dança, profusão teatral e humor típicos da “masquerade” inglesa desse período. A encenação estará a cargo do bailarino e coreógrafo Rui Horta, com um grande elenco sob a batuta de Marcos Magalhães e os Músicos do Tejo.
The second opera in the Great Classics Cycle, in this edition’s programme, evokes the tragic love of the Queen of Carthage, Dido, for the Trojan hero, Aeneas. For the first time, Operafest presents baroque repertoire. The enigmas and dilemmas of a woman in power who wants to end war and suffering. But the treacherous web of fate ends up blowing tragedy and death. With the most contrasting music that goes from one of the most desolate and beautiful laments in the history of music, such as “Dido’s Lament”, to musical moments of euphoria, passion and dance, theatrical profusion and humour typical of the English “masquerade” of that period. The staging will be in charge of the dancer and choreographer Rui Horta, with a great cast under the baton of Marcos Magalhães and Os Músicos do Tejo.
