CURVS #7 A LOVE LETTER TO PALESTINE – Planeta Manas
APRIL is coming – the month when, 50 years ago, on April 25th, A Revolução dos Cravos (Carnation Revolution) in Portugal wiped away the fascist dictatorship that chopped people’s freedom with sharp straight lines for 41 years. The carnation flower (cravo, in Portuguese) became a symbol of the revolution, as the soldiers would put them in their guns. From that day on, the country was set “free”. CURVS is a party based in Lisbon, although is made of curvy dissident queers – not just from Portugal, but also countries colonised by Portugal, like Brazil and Moçambique. That makes us very critical of the Portuguese westernised, euro-centric and colonial-blind idea of “freedom”, that always seems to be granted for a very specific, white, straight, cisgender, squared frame of human. Nevertheless, celebrating A Revolução dos Cravos and the fall of a fascist regime is still fundamental, especially in a moment when fascism is rising again – here, there, everywhere. At first, we though – “let’s make a special edition of CURVS focused in the Carnation Revolution and the fight for freedom against fascism”.
But then… there’s Gaza. How can we celebrate freedom here if a whole population is being brutally bombed, shot and starved to death there? How to fight fascism in Europe if even some “progressive” forces in the UE support the ZⒾ𝐨ηⒾSⓣ state of ᎥᏕᏒᏗᏋᏝ in their åþår†hêïÐ and GΣПӨᄃIDΛᄂ crusade? To what extent is it possible to separate our struggles from the Palestinian struggles? So, for this edition, we’re connecting the CARNATION and the WATERMELON with curvy, rhizomatic, underground stems. CURVS #7 will be a love letter to Palestine, inspired by the Carnation Revolution. A percentage of the proceeds will be destined to trusted, TBD organisations and/or funds actively fighting for the ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid, against the Israeli blockade. Follow our updates. Partying is also fighting. The dancefloor is also a battlefield. No one is free until all of us are free.
