Conference – „Security Culture in Contemporary Society – An Identity Approach”
The Romanian Cultural Institute in Lisbon is pleased to announce the conference entitled „Security Culture in Contemporary Society – An Identity Approach”, to be delivered by Prof. Arthur Tuluș, Prof. Cătălin Fetecău and Prof. Florin Tudor. The conference will take place on October 14, 2025, Alameda da Universidade Street, 1600-214 Lisbon, Room B112F (Library) .
The conference, is organised in collaboration with the ‘Dunărea de Jos’ University of Galați (Romania), The Romanian Lectorate at the University of Lisbon, and the Romanian Language Institute in Bucharest.
The event proposes a cultural, identity-based and educational perspective on the idea of security, seen as a resource for cohesion, belonging and symbolic protection for young people in Europe. It is an invitation to reflect on how culture, education, language, values and solidarity can contribute to preserving and transmitting Romanian identity to future generations. In a world where uncertainty increasingly defines our times, and risks – whether social, digital or cultural pervade our daily lives, the culture of security is no longer the exclusive domain of experts. It has become a necessity for every community, right for every citizen, and a shared responsibility.
For young Europeans and members of the Romanian diaspora in Portugal, who live at the crossroads of two cultural worlds, this culture of security provides an opportunity to strengthen their connection with European and Romanian values, to assert their own identity, and to show community resilience in a pluralistic space.
