Em As Mulheres Que Celebram as Tesmofórias, Odete revisita a peça clássica Thesmophoriazusae de Aristófanes, uma obra escrita em 411 A.C. que se centra nas mulheres atenienses, que se reúnem no templo de Deméter e Perséfone para celebrar as Tesmofórias, um festival no qual a presença masculina é proibida. Durante esta celebração, as mulheres conspiram para se vingar de Eurípides pela forma como ele as retrata nas suas tragédias.

A abordagem de Odete transforma o texto numa verdadeira “arqueologia experimental”. A peça é tratada como uma escavação dos tempos antigos, reinterpretada através da lente contemporânea, onde palavras, objetos, roupas e tradições atenienses são cuidadosamente investigados e revistos sob uma perspectiva atual. Esta montagem conclui um período de dois anos de investigação no âmbito do projeto STAGES (Sustainable Theatre Alliance for a Green Environmental Shift), cofinanciado pela União Europeia e com o apoio do Teatro Nacional D. Maria II.

In Women Celebrating the Thesmophoria, Odete revisits Thesmophoriazusae by Aristophanes, a classic play from 411 B.C. The original story revolves around Athenian women gathering in the temple of Demeter and Persephone during the Thesmophoria festival, a time when men are strictly forbidden. During this sacred celebration, they plot to take revenge on Euripides for how they are depicted in his tragedies.

Odete’s modern interpretation treats the play as an “experimental archaeology.” The ancient script is unearthed from Demeter’s soil and polished with a contemporary touch, where ancient terms, objects, clothing, and Athenian sayings are dissected and reimagined. This production wraps up two years of research under the STAGES (Sustainable Theatre Alliance for a Green Environmental Shift) project, co-funded by the European Union and in collaboration with Teatro Nacional D. Maria II.
