Taking advantage of his trip to Europe as part of Walden artist residency in France, Bui Cong Khanh will honor us with a presentation of his work at O Gabinete de Madame Thao.

Bui Cong Khanh (b. 1972, Vietnam) holds a BFA in Oil Painting from the University of Fine Arts, Ho Chi Minh City. In the 1990s, he was one of the first local artists to gain international recognition with his performances that questioned the restrictions of installation, video and drawing. Bui is a poetically provocative artist fascinated with social assumptions of cultural heritage. Having grown up in wartime Vietnam, his art often reflects the complex interwoven history of the country: examining its resilient, yet destructive dance between colonial occupation, political independence and economic progress.

Bui was a finalist for the Dogma Prize (2017) and for The 2017 Sovereign Asian Art Prize. His work Dislocate was shortlisted for the 11th Benesse Prize (2016) and he was a finalist for the Asia-Pacific Breweries Foundation Signature Art Prize, Singapore Art Museum, Singapore (2011). He also participated in the 2016 Singapore Biennale.
