(EN) Balklavalhau is a sonic voyage through the tradition of Eastern Europe, finding also on board Latin, Arabic, Slavic and many other harmonic, rhythmic and melodic nuances.

Balklavalhau was born as the result of a group of people from various corners of the world who started meeting regularly at an old tavern in the Old Town of Porto, Portugal, sharing their knowledge and passion for Balkan, Turkish & Middle Eastern musical heritage. After realizing how well they understood each other within these languages, they decided to develop themselves further as a band. Henceforth, they started working their own original compositions as well, mostly based upon Balkan traditional music, but also bringing the folk heritage from their own lands, so as to enrich the band’s musical personality with their various cultural backgrounds.

(PT) Balklavalhau é uma viagem sonora pelas tradições da Europa de Leste, passando também pela música latina, árabe e eslava, assim como outras nuances harmónicas, rítmicas e melódicas.

Balklavalhau nasceu com o juntar de músicos de vários pontos do mundo que começaram por se encontrar regularmente numa taberna antiga no Porto, partilhando a sua paixão pela herança musical da Turquia, dos Balcãs e do Médio Oriente. Ao reconhecerem a sua fluência nestas linguagens musicais, a banda decidiu desenvolver as suas capacidades como banda. Desde então, o grupo tem vindo a compor canções originais influenciadas maioritariamente pela música tradicional balcã.
